Homemade Lemon Ice Cream

The ideal summertime dessert, this homemade lemon ice cream dish is effortless to prepare. Fresh ingredients and a Cuisinart ice cream maker are all you need to make it!

When you think of summer, what first comes to mind?

For me, it means long walks, ice cream, flip-flops, warm weather, and pool time. I have a great homemade lemon ice cream recipe for you today, and it’s effortless to make.

Before we dive into the recipe instructions, let me tell you a little summertime tale.

Every summer when I was a child, my parents prepared ice cream. Our antique crank ice cream maker required several hours to complete the procedure. (We eventually purchased an electric ice cream maker, which made the task easier.)

It was constantly hot in our garage where we made it. My dad would do the churning while my mom prepared the mixture. Gathering old lawn chairs or buckets, my brothers and I would sit around the ice cream maker and wait for the churning to cease.

Every time the ice cream maker slowed down, our excitement would increase significantly. My folks didn’t seem to mind the mess the ice and rock salt produced. That ice cream had the most amazing flavor and was always such a pleasure. It is a memory from my early years that I will always cherish.

Ingredients

  • Half a cup of whole milk
  • One cup of thickened cream for whipping
  • one and a half cups of sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon (very little) salt
  • Two teaspoons of finely ground vanilla extract
  • half a cup of lemon juice
  • One tablespoon of heaped lemon zest

Instructions

  • Before beginning to prepare the ice cream, freeze the Cuisinart bowl for a full day.
  • Combine the milk, whipping cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl. Mix well with 
  • a whisk or on low speed with a mixer.
  • Include the zest and juice of lemons. Mix thoroughly.
  • After covering, refrigerate for a minimum of one to two hours or overnight.
  • Take the milk mixture out of the fridge and stir it together slowly.
  • The Cuisinart bowl should be taken out of the freezer and set atop the ice cream maker.
  • Fill the freezing basin with the milk mixture.
  • Include the easy-lock lid and mixing paddle. For twenty minutes, churn.
  • After you’re done, transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container.
  • Freeze for solidification.
  • If desired, garnish with fresh lemon zest.
