Easy Homemade Strawberry Frozen Yogurt No Ice Cream Maker Needed

Make this simple homemade strawberry frozen yogurt for a cool, refreshing treat anytime of the year! So easy and so delicious!

We always have this simple frozen yogurt on hand for those intense summer days when the temperature soars. (And WOW, these past few months have been incredibly and abnormally hot here.)

This homemade frozen recipe is so lovely because it doesn’t call for any pricey ingredients or an ice cream maker. Moreover, it has little sugar and no processed sugar. 

Only 3 Ingredients

This delightful little recipe only requires three ingredients and ten minutes to prepare. My summertime and general life coping mechanisms are not offended by that, I don’t know about you.

  • strawberries that are frozen
  • simple yogurt, either standard or Greek
  • maple syrup or honey

And that’s it! Did someone excitedly yell and holler in the comfort of their own home or place of work? I hope so. You should try this recipe.

Indeed, it is highly customisable, with several fruit choices. Here’s a peach variant that you might be familiar with and enjoy. Below, a glimpse of a variation with wild berries can be seen. 

Blender Or Food Processor

Either a powerful blender or food processor can be used to make this homemade strawberry frozen yogurt.

When using a food processor, the fruit and yogurt mixture will initially appear lumpy, and you may wonder how it will ever come together. However, perseverance is key.

It transforms into an enticingly creamy mixture after a few minutes. To keep the food processor spinning well, it helps to scrape down the edges occasionally.

When using a blender, you should begin using it on low speed and tamp the mixture with some good ol’ elbow grease. This is some frozen yoghurt I prepared using a berry blend in my Vitamix. thick! And very delicious. 

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

  • ½ cup plain yogurt (see note).
  • 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup or honey
  • Four cups (16 ounces) of frozen strawberries
  • Two tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice, if desired 

Instructions:

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

  • Place the yogurt, honey or maple syrup, frozen strawberries, and lemon juice (if desired) into the bowl of a 7- or 8-cup food processor.
  • Process for 3–4 minutes, scraping down the sides of the container several times as needed, until the frozen yoghurt is thick and creamy. Use the blender’s tamper to help mix the ingredients.
  • For a soft-serve consistency, serve right away. Alternatively, put the frozen yogurt in a container and freeze it for a few hours or even weeks.

Notes:

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

Yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt is what I almost always use for yogurt. For a richer, creamier frozen yogurt, I like full-fat yogurt, but low- or no-fat yoghurt still tastes good!

Doubling: If you have a big enough food processor or blender, this recipe may simply be doubled.

Blender: For the smoothest, creamiest frozen yogurt, use a powerful blender such as a Vitamix or Blendtec.

Fruit: For this dish, I use entire frozen strawberries that haven’t had any sugar added to them. You may easily modify this recipe to use different fruits.  

FAQ’s

For this frozen yogurt, what kind of yogurt works best? 

The frozen yogurt will be creamier and thicker the thicker the yogurt. While I like to use full-fat Greek yogurt, any kind will do! Yoghurt with fruit flavouring or plain, full fat, low fat, or no fat.

Is an ice cream maker suitable for making this?

What a wonderful question! It’s so simple to create in a food processor or blender that I’ve never made it in an official ice cream or frozen yogurt maker, but you could try one out.

Can I use frozen fruit other than strawberries to make this?

Indeed! It’s excellent with frozen fruits such as peaches or berry combinations. Go ahead and try some things!
